Art Deco Divine: Diamond Platinum Pendant
Art Deco design prides itself on the employment of bold geometric forms. Although Art Deco jewelry is almost always dramatic in presentation, this unusual platinum pendant displays its fine construction along with an understated sophistication.
Bordered with platinum and with corners clipped, a carved rectangle of rock crystal is centered with an estimated .37 carat old European cut diamond. From this central gem accented with mille grain platinum bezel radiates an etched starburst pattern with rays reaching out to touch the very perimeter of the frosty white crystal.
Placed at each of the cardinal points of the plaque are four (4) triangular shaped diamonds with a total estimated diamond weight of 2.77 carats. All within a platinum lozenge embellished with forty-eight (48) old European cut diamonds with an estimated total diamond weight of .96 carats and four (4) baguette diamonds of a total .07 carats for an estimated grand total of 4.17 carats of diamond weight. A simple platinum bale completes the fine period piece.
Date: Circa 1935.
Measurements: 2-1/16 inches (5.2 cm) in length including bale by 1-1/4 inches (3.2 cm) in width by just over 1/4 of an inch (0.6 cm) in depth. Weight of 9.5 grams (6.1 dwt).
Hallmarks: Maker's marks possibly “C&A”; “57777”; “MD”.
Condition: Excellent.
Origin: American.
