Dramatic Lapis & Diamond Ring
The later part of the 20th century brought a change in the conceptualization of jewelry. More than a manner of self-adornment, jewelry was perceived as art, as a wearable sculpture. It became an object to wear. Large pieces took over with a use of chromatic colored stones, different textures and cabochon cuts of vivid and strong color.
Here we present a very grand and quite dramatic ring employing textured 14k white and yellow gold alternating in a pattern of petal-like forms. A massive lapis lazuli cabochon of approximately 26 carats shows off its rich cobalt blue color with rivers of desirable gold flecks. For a crescendo and a flourish, thirty-two (32) single cut diamonds of an estimated total .44 carat weight form a surrounding bezel.
Date: Circa 1970.
Measurements: 7/8 of an inch (2.2 cm) in length north to south on the hand and rises 1 inch (2.5 cm) off the hand. Weight of 22.5 grams (14.5 dwt).
Ring Size: Currently a size US 7-1/2 (UK O-1/2; Euro 17.7; 55.7mm; Japan 15) and easily sized to fit most. Ring sizing information.
