Victorian Antique Diamond Pendant Earrings
The later years of the 1800s saw hair designs swept up onto the head and earrings becoming more visible. Diamonds were plentiful and became increasingly affordable; consequently the vogue for stunning jewelry incorporated the diamond.
Here we see an earring with a two-element articulated design. Each silver-topped 15k yellow gold pendant earring is set with six (6) rose cut and eleven (11) old mine and cushion cut diamonds. From a diamond set surmount, a bell-shaped flowerhead studded with diamonds suspends a stylized flower drop consisting of a large central diamond (one is about .70 carats; the other is about .65 carats) surrounded by a wreath-like frame dotted with diamonds. Each earring has an estimated total diamond weight of 1.5 carats with J-K color range and SI1-2 clarity. Modern 14k yellow gold ear wires have been added.
Date: Circa 1880.
Measurements: 1-5/16 inches (3.3 cm) in length including ear wire and 1-1/16 inches (2.6 cm) without by 1/2 of an inch (1.2 cm) at the widest. Weight of 5.5 grams (3.5 dwt) for the pair.
Condition: Excellent; modern 14k yellow gold ear wires.
