Edwardian Festivities: Gem-Set Festoon Necklace
Garlands, swags, and a festival of gems comprise this Edwardian era festoon necklace of 15k yellow gold. A lovely collection of citrine, amethyst, white topaz, blue tourmaline, garnets, yellow topaz, chrysoberyl, sapphires and pink topaz are coronet set in delicate mounts of gold. The gems are interspersed along finely made links of gold and suspend in all their finery into articulated swags of links. The necklace is finished with a replaced but period 9k yellow gold barrel clasp.
The piece is accompanied by a shaped gold tooled brown leather box with refitted black velvet interior which may not be original to the necklace.
Date: Circa 1900.
Measurements: 15-3/4 inches (40 cm) in total length. Length of decorative area is 8 inches (20.5 cm) in length by 1/2 of an inch (1.2 cm) at the widest. Weight of 9.9 grams (6.3 dwt).
Condition: Excellent; barrel clasp replaced.
Box most likely not original to necklace; black velvet has been refitted; bottom has light wear and a bit of staining.
