Scintillating French Art Deco Brooch
Art Deco cool and all that jazz just make this exciting silver brooch with its long, lean and most of all, linear profile. The surface is covered with pastes in a wide variety of color, shape and gestalt (an organized whole seen as greater than the sum of its parts). Pink, green, white and opaque black squares, rounds and quadrilaterals with no parallel sides make for a visually superb composition of punctuated geometry. Superior workmanship, each paste is set as a gemstone would be with tiny tips of silver. Please note the reverse with its fascinating “open” forms and all original hinge and trombone clasp.
Date: Circa 1925.
Measurements: 5/8 of an inch (1.5 cm) in length by 2-3/8 inches (6 cm) in width. Weight of 10.6 grams (6.8 dwt).
Hallmarks: French eagle's head; another poinçon.
Condition: Excellent; all original hinge and trombone clasp, fine for the front with some white pastes now a bit more silvery in hue.
