Grande Dame:18th C. Girandole Pearl Pendant
For over three hundred years in age, this wondrous silver gilt jewel has still managed to maintain its allure for all to envy. Once an earring nestled on the ear of perhaps a noble woman, the 18th century tradition of the ubiquitous girandole form is transformed into a silver gilt pendant. Fabulous natural pearls (still maintaining good white color and that amazing luster only possessed by these choice morsels) have been wired to the frames of the jewel. Flower clusters galore cover the surface of this resplendent Grande Dame of centuries past.
Date: Circa 1780.
Measurements: 2-1/2 inches (6.5 cm) in length including bale by 1-3/8 inches (3.4 cm) in width. Weight of 10.2 grams (6.6 dwt).
Condition: Good for its age. Pearls have been rewired; a bit of silver solder on two drops to close removable drop fittings; some wear to gilding; pearls are natural and slightly baroque in shape.
