Hidden Love: Edwardian Locket of Rose Gold
Nothing is hidden when wearing some glass lockets. The contents are open to public view. Well, not always as this Edwardian photo locket of 10k rose gold will clearly demonstrate. The bezel with attached “O” fitting is scored and unscrews from the body of the locket. The locket consists of two sections of glass within an ornate gold surround accented with a border of organic forms, although similar to a bow are almost leaf-like in configuration. The design of the locket allows for the insertion of two photographs – one facing outwardly for public display and the other, facing toward the heart for those private glimpses.
Date: Circa 1910.
Measurements: Just under 2 inches (4.9 cm) in length including bale by 1-1/2 inches (3.7 cm) in width. Weight of 6.8 grams (4.4 dwt) with including glass.
Hallmarks: Worn “10k” mark.
Condition: Excellent; the top attached "O" fitting appears to have been re-soldered closed.
