Always wanted to be in Vogue Magazine? Here is your chance. This ring is featured in the September 2012 Issue of Vogue page 821!!!
During the Georgian era there was a major distinction between what was appropriate attire and accompanying jewelry for the daytime versus the evening hours. The almandine garnet was the preferred gemstone of jewelry worn during the daylight hours.
Taking the form of a naturalistic flower design, an outer halo of sixteen (16) almandine garnets forms a scalloped perimeter and encloses an inner ring of ten (10) flat cut almandine garnets which cluster around a large central flat cut garnet. Each of the twenty-seven (27) purple-hued garnets have been set into rub over mounts of silver. Quite impressive in size, this was most likely a button converted to a ring. A later date silver shank and under gallery are stylistically well-suited to the matrix.
Date: Circa 1780.
Measurements: 1 inch (2.5 cm) in length north to south on the hand and rises 3/16 of an inch (0.5 cm) in height off the finger. Weight of 8.3 grams (5.3 dwt).
Ring Size: US 5 (UK J; Int. Dia. 15.75; Euro 50 mm; Japan 9) and easily can be sized to fit most. Ring sizing information.
Condition: Good for its age. Later shank and under gallery with silver solder at connection to cluster; when viewed with magnification visible evidence of former resizing as a fine line; general wear to garnets commensurate with age and use; 1 garnet cracked but stable; several garnets with chips.
Important: This ring should not be in water for an extended period nor exposed to any other liquids, cleaning products or harsh chemicals due to the nature of the garnets and foil backed stones. If considering as an engagement ring, please keep this in mind.
