Antique Daisies: 19th C. Silver Filigree Parure
The Victorians loved to have flowers convey messages and meanings which, due to the rules of 19th century etiquette were not to be spoken aloud. Those associated with the daisy flower included innocence, purity and loyalty in love.
There can be no better way to express one’s emotions than to give or wear this wonderful parure of silver filigree daisy flowers. Comprised of necklace, two matching bracelets (which can be joined and worn as a choker or short necklace), horizontal brooch and an almost identical single flower brooch added at a later date.
The necklace consists of nineteen daisy forms graduated in size and quite representative of the actual flower with multiple petals of silver filigree radiating out from a raised central dome of textured vermeil or gilt silver. Each of the bracelets has eight equally sized daisy flowerheads attached by a double row of silver “O” rings and finished with a hidden tongue and groove clasp.
The bar brooch has a three daisy form of a large flower flanked by two smaller ones. The single florette is almost a mirror image of the larger central flower of the large brooch. The silver filigree work of all the pieces is so fine that it appears as though woven by a mythical spider given a command by a reigning monarch to create a singular gift of beauty for his beloved.
Accompanied by the original brown leather box with interior lining of purple velvet and silk.
