Amuletic Natural Saltwater Pearl Pendant
Since the Renaissance and prior, natural baroque pearls of a variety of shapes have been used in jewelry. Sometimes the shapes were the inspiration for fantastic creatures or mermaids, at other times purely as an amulet. Here a guaranteed natural pearl displays all the lustrous wonder of the deep seas. With hints of iridescent blue and green, and whites and golden tones, the dual pearl is capped in 14k rose gold. With scalloped edge and hand engraved detail, the cap envelopes to top in a rosy rich pendant.
Comes with an EGL USA certificate stating that the pearl is natural saltwater.
Date: Circa 1880.
Measurements: Overall length with bale is 1-1/2 (3.8 cm)of an inch. Without bale it measures 1 (2.5 cm) inches. Width of pearls at the widest point is 15/16 (2.4 cm) with a thickness of 1/2 (1.2 cm) inches.
Condition: Excellent with 4 small holes to the pearl with some brown coloration.
Origin: Most likely European in origin.
