Georgian Amethyst 18k Gold Earrings
The jewelry of the late 18th and early 19th century often incorporated the fabulous metal work of cannetille with its tight gold wire rosettes, scrolls and coils in combination with that of repoussé. Around the third decade of the 1800s jewelers began phasing out the labor-intensive wirework and employed more of the high relief embossed gold.
These modified 18k yellow gold bow and drop earrings feature inimitable cannetille work, small gold beads (grainiti) and repoussé floral and shell motifs. Tear drop pendants of faceted amethyst are the perfect compliment. The purple translucent gem with such a deep purple translucence caters to the warm rich glow of antique gold.
