Antique Spanish Garnet & Gold Earrings
Like the tendrils of a vine, these 18k yellow gold Spanish earrings mysteriously weave their way into consciousness. Studded with sumptuous wine-colored garnets and three small red spinels, these handmade wearable objects d'art are as captivating as any antique earring can get.
Flat cut stones are set within cut down bezels. The two central gems are elevated more than 4 mm and dominate the landscape of the earring; the smaller stones are set about 2 mm above the gold branches. Versatility has always been a desirable aspect of 19th century jewelry and this pair of day night earrings can be worn solo or with the addition of the lacy drops. The reverse of each piece has been embellished with fine engraving—a vestige of the type found in 17th century work.
