Victorian Onyx & Enamel Brooch Locket
Subtle details place this oval onyx Victorian brooch locket in a different category. The faceted perimeter gives this popular piece of jewelry a most definitive look of polish and style.
Although inset with the characteristic star motif, the celestial body is outlined with a thick band of royal blue enamel and a thin line of 14k yellow gold. Bead set within is a flowerhead of eight natural (untested but assumed natural) half seed pearls clustered around a faceted round cut sapphire.
The original removable yellow gold pendant bale is set with a column of natural half seed pearls graduated in size. The underside reveals the original pin stem, tube hinge and clasp, 14k yellow gold surround and removable glass locket back.
Measurements: 2-3/16 inches (5.5 cm) in length by 1-1/4 inches (3.1 cm) in width. Weight of 24.1 grams (15.5 dwt).
Condition: Excellent; locket back is detachable but requires a jeweler to remove.
Date: Circa 1880.
