Branches of Gold: Antique Garnet Earrings
Consistent with the fashions and hair styles of the mid 19th century earrings were traditionally smaller in overall size.
This Victorian earring displays the beloved naturalistic floral theme. A garnet cut en cabochon and mounted in a closed setting is as a ripening bud emerging from a flower. Enfolded and embraced by gold elements of hollow design portray the leaves, tendrils and stems of the dawning blossom of long awaited springtime.
The hinged fittings on the underside are front to back wires with a loop at the top designed to present the earring from falling forward.
