Archaeological Revival Turquoise & Pearl Earrings
From the Grand Period of Victorian jewelry comes this archaeologically inspired pair of 14k yellow gold earrings. With a configuration right out of an ancient tradition and the Victorian decoration of the hinged elements, these are an ode to the integration of the old and the new (Victorian) in the design of jewelry.
Reminiscent of the mid-19th century work of Tiffany & Company, the yellow matt gold articulated panels (hinged in the center) are superbly ornamented with an outstanding pierced metal leaf motif as well as stems and flowers decorated with natural half seed pearls (untested) and natural Persian turquoise. Corded wire work has been applied to the edges of the stems and leaves. A triune of beadwork orbs completes the symmetry of the earring.
Measurements: 2 inches (5.2 cm) in length by 11/16 of an inch (1.7 cm) in width. This pair of antique earrings has a weight of 9.8 grams (6.4 dwt).
Condition: Very good; front in mint condition; top side edge on each earring slightly rubbed; a gold plate applied to the back with modern 14k yellow gold ear wires.
Date & Origin: Circa 1870 and is possibly American in origin.
Overall Scale: Medium to large
