Victorian Gold & Enamel Slide Chain

$3,850 USD Item 11738

During the 19th century watches worn on the wrist were not as yet a part of the culture. For men timepieces were typically carried in the pocket or attached to a chain on the waistcoat or vest. For the ladies of the period, a chain such as this one was worn around the neck and the pocket or case watch hung from the end of the chain. The slide was not only decorative but also functional as well as it allowed the chain to be shortened or lengthened.

This Victorian era slide chain is typically American in its styling. The chain is crafted of 10k yellow gold; the slide is 14k and is embellished with black basse taille enamel with floral designs. The center of the slide has a yellow gold flower motif with a central pearl. The double linked chain truly catches the light almost illuminating the space around it with its shimmer and shine.
