Grand Art Nouveau Heart Locket Pendant
Jewelry expert and author Clare Phillips states “pendants containing a portrait miniature or a lock of hair have proved to be amongst the most enduring of jewels and most charming of mementoes.”
Right she is as this Art Nouveau silver locket can justifiably attest. The front is chased with modified paisley-like scrolling and texturing that surrounds a smooth heart-shaped plaque engraved in elaborate script “L to A”. The reverse is smooth and unadorned. Known as a double box locket as it has two internal compartments, this antique locket still has its original rims and glass covers. The interior also reveals five and six pointed star motifs decorating the surface.
