Victorian Visionary Sapphire & Diamond Ring

SOLD Item 11503

A lattice of 18k yellow gold provides a perfect setting for this late Victorian ring. The mount has a modified navette shape that allows full perspective for an approximate .25 carat old European cut diamond (color J-K, clarity SI1-2) flanked by each side by a pair of rose cut diamonds of about .05 carats each (four rose cuts in all) for a total estimated diamond weight of .45 carats.

Adding just the right touch of color to the whiteness of the diamonds are two round .05 carat sapphires of a gorgeous pale Ceylon blue color. These gems are set into pentagonal-shaped bezels near shoulders that slowly taper into a silken and smooth 18k gold shank.

Condition: Very good; light to medium wear to the gold as expected with age and use; the stones excellent.

Hallmarks: worn mark which appears to be English.

Measurements: Just shy of 5/16 of an inch (0.7 cm) north to south by 9/16 of an inch (1.4 cm) in width from sapphire to sapphire and rises 1/8 of an inch (0.3 cm) from the finger. This antique ring has a weight of 2.8 grams (1.8 dwt). Currently a size US 9-7/8 (UK T; Euro 10-5/8, 62 mm) and can be easily sized to fit any hand.

Date & Origin: Circa 1880 – 1890 and is most likely English in origin.

Note: All diamond and gemstone weights, color grades and clarity are approximate since the stones were not removed from their mounts to preserve the integrity of the setting.
