Antique Poesy Ring - I Like My Choyce C. 1700

SOLD Item 11393

Known during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance as a love, betrothal and marriage ring, the poesy ring is most often in the form of a simple gold band with an engraved message. Traditionally these wedding rings were engraved in old script with quaint spellings of English words and were most popular during the 16th and 17th century when only the very rich had the means to afford real gold. This wide and heavy example has the inscription “I LIKE MY CHOYSE” incised on the interior surface of the band and privy only to those so chosen.
