Cascades of Light - Diamond Ring of 2.56 carats

$19,500 USD Item 11312

Jewelry has an immediate visual appeal. It can range from flash to seemingly luxurious to that which is truly well designed, proportioned, crafted and finished. Is the design in ultimate harmony within itself and in relation to the gems or stones? Does it transcend metal and flash?

If one has experience using a loupe, viewing the undercarriage of a piece of jewelry reveals an aspect of that story. It suddenly becomes clear whether a setting has been stamped out, quickly filed and polished and the gems popped in or if it were all hand crafted, sawed, azured and then finished. When an artisan pours over the design with a meticulous eye for proportion - it is evident.

Such is the case with this exceptional ring that can be both contemporary in tone while maintaining a timelessness of style. French in artistry and make, this platinum and diamond modern mount is very limited in production. The setting is a classic orchestration of scrolls and diamond encrusted mille grain work embracing a magnificent antique 2.56 carat old European diamond with color L-M and clarity VS2-SI1. Superbly prismatic, a rainbow of light is refracted in a surprisingly white diamond.

Another advantage of this ring? In almost every light, the diamond reads icy white within a pool of shimmer. At a few angles, hints of gold show through. Another diamond of this size and of higher color would place this in another price bracket entirely. The reason is due to the cut - it is a classic Tolkowsky cut diamond. Marcel Tolkowsky's diamond proportions and cuts are the basis of today's ideal cut.**

In addition, there are twenty-four (24) brilliant and old European cut diamonds averaging about .02 carats each. Moreover, ten (10) old European cut diamonds of approximately .05 carats apiece act as accents with an estimated weight just shy of 1 carat. The total diamond weight for this gorgeous ring is 3.5 carats.

Condition: Excellent

Hallmarks: Mark for platinum and another mark that is possibly the maker.

Measurements: Ring rises up high off the finger at 5/16 of an inch (0.8 cm) and is more than 7/8 of an inch (1.2 cm) north to south on the finger. Weight of 8.5 grams.

**The Tolkowsky cut diamond was known for its maximizing the "white" in a diamond as well as its life and brilliance. He wrote a book still referred to today, "Diamond Design
A Study of the Reflection and Refraction of Light in a Diamond".
