Victorian Whitby Jet Earrings
Victorian in date, the thick, sculptural quality and the graphic shapes are strictly later 19th century. Flower shapes sit atop black sheets of carved Whitby jet. In three parts, there is a top "O" Whitby jet element, a horseshoe shaped attachment and the final lustrous drop. The ear wires are possibly original and are not gold—typical for jet earrings; however, we can certainly change to gold wires if desired.
Condition: Very good. One of the central flowers has surface blemish visible with a loupe; light wear to the reverse as expected with age and use; a few chips at the base around the connection points of the flower and relief.
Measurements: 2-3/8 inches (6 cm) in length including ear wire and 1-3/4 inches (4.5 cm) without by 5/8 of an inch (2 cm) in width. This pair of antique earrings has a weight of 8.5 grams.
Date & Origin: Circa 1870 - 1880 and is English in origin.
