Antique Spanish Silver Pendant & Chain

Intricate filigree of precious silver marks the Spanish origins of this double sided sealed locket. Two miniature paintings of flowers have been rendered on what may be ivory are covered with faceted glass. The artisans of Spain were renowned for their beautiful open metal work. The chain is comprised of double figure eight links connected with “O” rings to form a complex and intricate silver chain.

Condition: Good to very good. Each side of glass has an edge chip and a bit of surface wear. One side of silver rim has a minute area missing. Filigree and silver on pendant have tiny bends noticeable upon very close inspection. Between chain and pendant top is a tad amount of old silver solder.

Measurements: Pendant is 1-3/4 inches (4.2 cm) in length not including “O” fitting by 1-1/2 inches (3.6 cm) in width by just shy of ½ of an inch (0.8 cm) at the deepest. Chain is 20-1/2 inches (52 cm) in total length. When worn with pendant drapes down 11-3/4 inches (29.6 cm). Together the weight is 32.2 grams.

Date & Origin: 18th century & is most likely Spanish in origin.
