Georgian Revival Paste Necklace
Revivalist style in jewelry was not limited to the Victorians. Not everyone was enamored with the fluid lines or the subject matter required by Art Nouveau nor fond of the rejection of precious gemstones by the Arts and Crafts movement. The emerging decades of the 20th century gave more than just a cursory nod of the head to designs and motifs of the jewelry designers of the 18th century.
This beautiful necklace harkens back to the days of dazzling jewels and pastes of the Georgian era. Crafted as a simple rivière, eleven resplendent clear white round pastes are strung graduated in size. All are closed back, foiled, and set in pinched collets of sterling silver. From this, a pear shaped drop with an oval surmount is suspended. Georgian jewelry was balanced, symmetrical, regal and elegant. Closed settings covered the backs of stones.
