Clear as Glass: 19th Century Locket
Lockets such as this late 19th century example came of age during the Victorian era. Mementos and keepsakes of all kinds were held close to the heart captured within the compartment of a locket.
This oval silver gilt hinged locket has been crafted from clear glass with charming facets on the perimeter of both sides. Perfect for enclosing a miniature painting or drawing of your own.
Condition: Very good; two faint diagonal lines on one glass appear to be within the glass itself and are visible only upon very close inspection.
Measurements: 1-3/8 inches (3.5 cm) in length including both “O” fittings and more than 1 inch (2.7 cm) without by 15/16 of an inch (2.3 cm) in width by 5/16 of an inch (0.9 cm) in depth. This antique locket has a weight of 7 grams.
Date & Origin: Circa 1850 - 1860 and is most likely English in origin.
