Stars of Wonder - Edwardian Sapphire Diamond Ring
The gypsy setting came into favor in the very late 19th century and continued to be employed for many decades. It involves setting gems recessed below the top surface of the metal. In many instances a star pattern emanates from the center outward.
A trio of gems, two sapphires and an old mine cut diamond, is set in this manner. In 14k pale rose gold, the ring is made by Lincoln, Bacon & Company a Massachusetts firm no longer in business. It is hand engraved and set with two deep round cut sapphires with flashes of intense light blue. Each is approximately 1/4 carat. They are paired with a radiant, very fine old European diamond of .40 carats at a color H-I and clarity SI1 or better.
