Georgian Rose Cut Diamond Cluster Ring

$4,250 USD Item 11146

Portraiture of the 17th century and prior often shows the wearer's diamond jewelry as nearly black. The reason is simple - diamonds were set closed backed, deep within metal and foiled. In addition, in some light diamonds take on a silvery grey hue. Cutting techniques were not particularly advanced nor was the concept of light reaching the underside of the stone well understood.

Those evocative paintings are brought to life in this shimmering later Georgian rose cut diamond cluster or flower motif ring. Each diamond is hand cut (note the marvelous variation in each and every one - a sign of a truly hand made stone). All are set within silver and foiled in crimped, rub over settings. The gems sparkle and glint with a soft focus graphite white. The shank is rose gold with fluted sides tapering to a simple back. While over a century and more beyond those paintings, it still calls up those regal and indelible images.
