Magnifique! French 19th C. Diamond Slide

SOLD Item 11106

A slide is a sliding type of fastener through which a chain, belt or ribbon can be passed and secured. The slide was then adjusted up or down to suit the mood.

This is simply the most impeccable French gold and diamond slide imaginable. Superb in its construction, the foliate design evokes images of silver carnation flowers and buds. The central carnation is set with four (4) small accent rose cut diamonds; each of the buds is also set with a diamond. The 18k gold has been lightly enameled with a pale green hue completing the look of foliage.

The underside reveals the ingenious catch—on the side a pin is pulled upwards, enabling the hinged back of the catch to open, displaying the piece of cork that gently secures the chain—and the wonderful wrapped gold fittings beneath.

Condition: Mint; a tad bit of coloration and wear to the cork.

Hallmarks: French hallmark and the number "827” which is most likely a style number.

Measurements: 15/16 of an inch (2.3 cm) in length by 11/16 of an inch (1.7 cm) in width by 3/8 of an inch (0.8 cm) in depth. This antique slide has a weight of 3.6 grams.

Date & Origin: 1880 – 1890; French in origin.
