Sinuous Curves: British Raj Tiger Claw Bracelet
Links of sensual rose gold join ten claws of the native Indian tiger capped with matching rose gold jackets. Sinuous lines follow each curve of the contoured claws. The claw is similar in shape to the design of the paisley pattern which became popular in the 17th century through the British East India Trading Company with a resurgence of the form during the 19th century.
Condition: Excellent; a few links are out of round, otherwise fine.
Hallmarks: Each claw is marked “9ct” (for 9k gold) at the top of the gold cap.
Measurements: Each tiger claw is just shy of 1 inch (2.3 cm) in length by 1/2 an inch (1.2 cm) at the widest. Bracelet is 8-3/4 inches (22.2 cm) in total length and has a weight 19.1 grams. The bracelet is quite long and, if desired can easily be shortened for no additional charge.
Date & Origin: Circa 1900 – 1910; Raj India & British for the British market.
