Elysian Fields of Turquoise in a Pavé Locket
A field of Elysian paradise blue turquoise encrusts this oval locket. The original removable bale is also covered in cabochons of turquoise. Victorian, it dates to circa 1870 and is fashioned from 14 - 15k yellow gold. On the reverse the locket retains its original beveled glass cover. A fingernail easily opens the cover to insert a personal memento. Black felt has been applied to the interior.
Condition: Excellent for the front and for the turquoise; variation in color of the turquoise as expected. Good to very good for the reverse with light wear to the gold; the back of the top bale has some patina and dimpling of the gold; a few tiny dimples to the gold at the edges of the locket appear to be part of the original construction.
Measurements: 2-5/16 inches (5.8 cm) in total length; 1-1/2 inches (3.7 cm) long for the locket by 1-3/16 inches (3.1 cm) in width by 7/16 of an inch (1.1 cm) in depth. Has a weight of 11.5 grams.
