Art Deco Diamond & Sapphire Ring
With characteristic bold color contrast of white diamonds and blue sapphires, this 18k white gold ring speaks Art Deco. Set into a stair-stepped octagonal mount, an old European cut diamond of approximately .59 carats shines supreme with color H and clarity of VS1. Pierced and open metal work gives the gem-set triangular cut sapphire shoulders quite a turn. Typical of this period are synthetic sapphires. It is possible that the stones are synthetic; it is sometimes difficult to be certain with small gemstones.
Condition: Very good; light wear to mount; one sapphire has a chip to the top visible with magnification.
Measurements: Just shy of 3/8 of an inch (0.9 cm) at the widest and rises up ¼ of an inch (0.6 cm) off the finger. Has a weight of 1.7 grams. Currently is a size US 6 (British L-1/2; Euro 16.50, 52 mm). Can be sized up or down to fit most.
Date: Circa 1935
Note: All diamond weights, color grades and clarity are approximate since the stones were not removed from their mounts to preserve the integrity of the setting.
