Chalcedony Sailing Ship Fob Pendant
An overwhelming request for fobs, charms and pendants from the 1960s and 1970s has led us onto the seas!
Rendered in 18k yellow gold is a model of a three-mastered caravel sailing ship. Caravels were used by the Spanish and Portuguese during the 15th century for long voyages of exploration (such as two of the vessels used by Christopher Columbus).
Three 18k gold masts fly square and lateen sails with hand engraved designs on each. Nicely detailed with stitch marks along the side of each sale and with a long wooden pole or yard that spreads out the sail across the top to hold it open. The hull is made of a cabochon of pale gray-blue chalcedony that sports a scalloped border and twisted rope bezel. Large in scale, this ship-shape fob or charm also makes a first-class pendant.
Condition: Excellent; very light wear to the some of the gold visible upon magnification.
Measurements: Just shy of 1-3/8 inches (3.5 cm) in height by less than 1 inch (2.4 cm) at the widest by more than 3/8 of an inch (1.1 cm) in thickness. Has a weight of 7.3 grams.
Date: Circa 1965
