Hidden Memories: Georgian Secret Locket Ring

$1,350 USD Item 10931

Although quite able to stand on its own merits, this scarce early 19th century ring possesses a secret. A concealed hinge enables a section of the exterior shank to lift and reveal a hidden compartment that at one time probably contained woven hair.

Superbly crafted in 15k rose gold, this Georgian period ring has been ornamented with a beautifully reeded convex shaped band appointed with the engraved letter “F” in Gothic script on the front. Sentimental or memorial in nature, the interior of the band has been inscribed in script with "Frederica 15 July 1815". This most likely marks the date of the passing of a woman named Frederica. Quite unusual and rather mysterious.

Condition: Excellent; light overall wear as expected with age and use. One tiny pin on interior lid now missing but lid closes very securely.

Measurements: ¼ of an inch (0.7 cm) in width. Currently a size US 8 (UK P-1/2; Euro 18.25, 57.5 mm). It is 1/8 inch deep (.3 cm). This ring cannot be sized. Has a weight of 4.9 grams.

Date: Circa 1815
