Victorian Two Colored Gold Earrings
Earrings from the mid-Victorian period often took on a novelty look or a whimsical shape. Nothing was sacred from being incorporated into the antique earrings of that era. Gold of various colors (green, pink or red, and orange) were combined. Enamel and gold was favored for the daytime; pearls and precious gems for the evening.
This pair of antique earrings is typically American in design and technique. Black basse taille enamel and 14k green and rose gold provide the color and detail. Bright cut engraving and surface textures are emphasized by the materials chosen. Please note the wonderful use of the arrow form.
