Aquamarine Victorian Gold Earrings
Double discs of 18k yellow gold form a beautifully detailed pair of Victorian earrings. Although appearing august in weight, these pendant earrings are very wearable and lightweight on the ear due to their characteristic hollow construction.
Each of the discs is ornamented with a floral motif of a dangling flower drop of faceted aquamarine flanked by gold leaves. Lovely gold wire work appliqués and twisted rope edging add visual interest and texturing.
Condition: Good; some patina to the gold in crevices and overall; a tad bit of inconsistency to gold finish on reverse; later date ear wires have tiny spots of silver solder beneath fittings.
Measurements: More than 1-1/4 inches (3.4 cm) in total length including ¼ of an inch (0.6 cm) ear wires by more than 5/8 of an inch (1.7 cm) at the widest. This pair of antique earrings has a weight of 5.0 grams.
Date & Origin: Circa 1860; most likely English in origin.
