Sumptuous Victorian Chalcedony Fob

$1,450 USD Item 10921

A large and ornate 14k yellow gold over metal and 14k solid gold antique fob does justice to the jewelers of the Victorian age. Three elements define the fob. First, substantial in size top ring of solid yellow gold is highly chased with scroll designs. Next, the middle is decorated with floral and leaf motifs appointed with a wonderful pineapple form. And, lastly the base with a radiating basket weave pattern outlined with scallop shells and Baroque floral motifs.

A rectangle of un-carved alabaster white chalcedony forms the matrix of the seal. The knights of the Crusades believed chalcedony to have protective powers and had bits and pieces of it inset into the pommels of their swords.

Measurements: 1-3/4 inches (4.7 cm) in length not including small top loop and is 1-7/8 inches (5 cm) long with the loop. Base is 1 inch (2.5 cm) by 7/8 of an inch (2.2 cm).

Condition: Very good; a tad bit of wear to outer edge of stone; although large top loop is a different shade of gold than the fob, it is original to the piece. Later small top loop added.
