Georgian Table Cut Diamond & Pearl Earrings

$2,750 USD Item 10883

Arabesques of high carat yellow gold serve as the basis for diamonds and baroque natural pearls. Table cut diamonds (one of the earliest diamond cuts) in tandem with rose cut diamonds are set in closed back and foiled settings of floral and leaf forms. Glorious baroque natural pearls (untested) are at the surmount and final drop.

Day night earrings come apart to allow wear of only the top or the top and bottom drop. Later ear wires and an "S" bar have been added which still allows the removal of the bottom drop. In the grand Spanish manner, these date to earlier in the 18th century. Table cuts fell out of favor around the mid 18th century. Earrings always were mirror images of each other - they may frame the face, sweep outward or tuck inward.

Measures just under 2-1/4 inches (5.4 cm) in total length including a 3/8 of an inch (0.9 cm) ear wire by 5/8 of an inch (1.5 cm) at the widest part. The pair weighs 11.3 grams. Condition is good with some silver solder evident on the reverse; later ear wires and day night hooks; one "O" fitting reinforced. The pearls appear original to the earrings as do all the diamonds.
