Corona of Desire - Sapphire Diamond Ring

$5,650 USD Item 10861

Edwardian jewelry designers were known for their excellence of extravagant forms of lightness and delicacy. This was an era of the jewelry of The Four Hundred and the privileged class made to appear as fine and delicate as the feminine fashions of the time.

Typical for this period is the use of a colored precious gem combined with many small diamonds. This superbly crafted ring boasts a faceted sapphire, measuring 5 mm across and with a weight of .60 carats, surrounded by a platinum skirt of cascading diamonds. Astonishingly adept artistry has enabled the fashioning of this millegrain mount that catches and reflects light and adds to the brilliance of the sixty-eight (68) diamonds within the platinum borders. Single cuts, rose cuts and very deep single cut diamonds range in size from less than .01 carats to .03 carats with an estimated total diamond weight of .55 carats. The blazing whiteness of the diamonds flatter the flashes of Ceylon blue within the radiance of the azure blue sapphire.

Measures more than ½ of an inch (1.3 cm) and rises just shy of ¼ of an inch (0.6 cm) from the finger. It has a weight of 3.3 grams. Currently a size US 6-3/4 (British just less than an N; Euro 17.25, 54 mm) and can be sized to fit most. Condition is very good with the center stone having been removed, polished and reset. Sapphires are somewhat soft gems and do gems and diamonds that been removed and re-polished. Dates to circa 1915.

Note: All diamond weights are approximate since the stones were not removed from their mounts to preserve the integrity of the setting.
