Regency Era Citrine Creole Hoop Earrings

$2,750 USD Item 10823

Fashion during the Regency period was simple and elegant and inspired by neoclassical sensibilities. The over-the-top style of the preceding Rococo period was seen as outdated and crass. Waists were high and the direction was focused toward the vertical.

The now scarce and highly desirable Creole hoop earring design has been rendered in 18k rose gold. Placed into the form of a column, six (6) faceted citrines have been set into crimped closed back collet mounts for each of this pair of antique earrings. Graduated in size, the stones have been foiled to enhance their color and brilliance. All original, the citrines have been foiled with pink variegated foiling so each shows the luminous pale amber tones as well as fuchsia and rosy hues. Front to back ear fittings complete the picture.

Measures just shy of ¼ of an inch (0.6 cm) at the widest. Together the citrine portion measures more than ¾ of an inch (2 cm). The pair weighs 3.9 grams. In very good condition; three stones with small chips ath edges and with some variation in the color of the foiling. Dates to circa 1810 - 1820.
