Peak of Perfection - Vienna Bronze Pekingese Dog
With overall balance and perfect proportioning, this miniature Vienna bronze of a Pekingese dog is realistically rendered. Wonderfully fine detailing is demonstrated in both the casting of the figure and the exceptional quality of the cold painting. Posed in a standing posture, his stocky, muscular body aptly displays the lion-like image for which this breed is known. Heavily feathered ears frame the sides of his face as his large and very dark eyes twinkle with a gleam. The course texture of his long straight coat forms a mane on his neck and shoulders and the long fringes on his tail and hindquarters.
Measures more than 1-1/2 inches (4.1 cm) in height by 2 inches (5 cm) in length and just shy of 1 inch (2.5 cm) in width. Good condition with expected loss and wear of paint. Dates to circa 1890 and is Continental in origin, made in Vienna, Austria. Vienna bronze castings of Pekingese dogs are uncommon. Just what a collector wants to hear.
