Sit Stay: Vienna Bronze Pug Dog

A delight in miniature…with its muscular compact realistically rendered, this Victorian era Vienna bronze pug dog sits in anticipation of his mistress’s voice. Bred as a companion dog, his amber colored eyes, black mask and rose ears gladden the heart. Substantial in weight, the pup is cast and hand painted with attention to detail. His torso is painted a silvery apricot-fawn and he sports a charming collar around his neck.

Condition: Good; overall light paint wear as commensurate with age.

Measurements: 7/8 of an inch (2.2 cm) in height by 7/16 of an inch (1.1 cm) in width by 13/16 of an inch (2.1 cm) in depth. Has a weight of 15.5 grams.

Date & Origin: Circa 1880; Vienna, Austria

Historical note: Brought from China to Holland four hundred years ago, the pug was later perfected in Victorian England.
