Georgian Antique Garnet Maltese Cruciform Pendant

$1,850 USD Item 10794

Almandine garnets were a favorite of the women of the 18th and early 19th century. Considered appropriate for day wear, these gemstones were typically polished to a flat cut. This means the top of the stone is a flat plane with minimal facets just along the edge. These gems were placed into a rose gold setting forming the perfect partnership with the warm tones of the garnets. The focal point of this antique cruciform pendant is the central starburst or floral form. Natural variations in the color (ranging from a deep mulberry red to a claret wine) and composition of the garnets occur throughout as a marvelous testament to the gem type and age of this handmade antique piece.

Measures 1-5/8 inches (4.1 cm) in length and width. The top O-ring is more than 3/8 of an inch (1.1 cm) in length. The pendant has a weight of 10.4 grams. Condition is excellent for the front; later date pendant bale and base shows a touch of silver solder showing at each side. English in origin and dates to circa 1790 – 1810.
