Impressive Stuart Crystal Ring

Dating to the late 17th to early 18th century, this is an excellent example of a Stuart crystal ring. This type of jewelry has behind it a fascinating story. Please refer to our "Reference Section" under "Helpful Terms" for information.

A clear rock crystal has been faceted, cut into an octagonal shape and placed into a setting of high carat (more than 20k) yellow gold. The crystal itself is sparkling and very clear and has never been cleaned or removed. This is of note and is quite important as many of these crystals have been taken out and the gold bezel marred because of this action. Set inside the crystal is a tiny layer of hair; upon the mat rests the gold cypher initials “J G”.

Measures just less than 3/8 of an inch (0.8 cm) by 3/8 of an inch (0.9 cm) and rises from finger more than 1/8 of an inch (0.4 cm). It has a weight of 2.6 grams. Currently a size US 8-1/4 (British Q; Euro 18.25, 58 mm). It can be sized to fit most. In excellent condition overall which is quite unusual especially for a ring.

Important: This ring should not be exposed to water, cleaning products or harsh chemicals due to the foil backed gems. If considering this as an engagement ring, please keep this in mind.
