Poetry in Motion: Vienna Bronze Greyhound Dog

$925 USD Item 10785

Beginning around 1850 independent artisans in Austria began competing in the casting of exquisite bronze statutes of humans and naturalistic animals. Here is a masterful example of a Victorian era Vienna bronze miniature immortalized in precise detail.

Substantial and weighty for it size, this solid bronze figure of a sighthound delineates those characteristics that typify these strong and agile athletic dogs. Power and grace personified as the animal is posed in a running position; his torso is completely extended and his entire body is almost parallel to the ground. From the long, fine and tapering tail to the extension of his lean limbs, this cold-painted Vienna bronze captures the air of excitement that accompanies these speedsters of the canine world.

Measures 4 inches (10.2 cm) in length by more than ½ of an inch (1.6 cm) in width by 1-1/4 inches (3.2 cm) in height. In good condition; some overall paint wear and loss, particularly on the tail and small spots throughout the figure. Dates to circa 1900 and is Austrian in origin.
