Antique Stuart Crystal Brooch
The “Stuart Crystal” has a fascinating history beginning around 1688 with followers who wished to restore the Stuarts to the thrones of England and Scotland. After King Charles I was executed in 1649, those who remained loyal covertly wore rings with his image or initials under a faceted rock crystal. What is now referred to as “Stuart Crystal” jewelry originated from this practice. When no longer associated with that monarchy, these pieces frequently memorialize a loved one. Even though given as tokens of love and affection, they are still collectively known as Stuart Crystal jewelry.
