Georgian Pearl & Ruby Locket Ring
The design of this 12k yellow gold antique ring is an example of the floral influences so beloved by jewelers of the Georgian era. Crafting of this cluster ring includes a central rectangular bezel set ruby and eight (8) petals of creamy natural pearls interspersed with eight (8) small faceted ruby colored paste gems. Typical of the 18th and early 19th century, we find a mix of paste and gems, real and faux even in the finest of jewels. A ridged crimped collet setting provides the perfect mount for the ring.
Botanically inspired engraving of foliate design accentuated the bifurcated shoulders that meld into a smooth unadorned band. Additional ridged crimped collet set rubies provide a bridge between the split shoulders. On the reverse resting behind the central ruby is a glass-covered locket with its contents lost in the sands of time. A very feminine antique ring.
Measures more than 3/8 of an inch in diameter and rises up more than 1/8 of an inch (0.5 cm) off the finger. It has a weight of 3.5 grams. Currently a size US 7-1/4 (British O; Euro 17.50, 55.5 mm) and can be sized to fit most. In very good condition; light wear to the rubies as expected with use and time. Negligible evidence of an old resizing visible with magnification. Dates to circa 1830 and is English in origin.
Important: This ring should not be exposed to water, cleaning products or harsh chemicals due to the foil backed gems. If considering this as an engagement ring, please keep this in mind.
