Edwardian Pearl Tassel Earrings
Known as the “Queen of Gems”, pearls bring love and riches to their owner. With their warm inner glow and shimmering iridescence, natural pearls have been one of the most highly prized and sought after gems. Formed without man’s interference by free-range "wild" oysters living at sea, they are exceedingly rare as natural pearls almost disappeared from the market in the late 1800's due to excessive harvesting.
Perhaps only those Edwardian jewelers could create such beauty using peerless natural seed pearls. Classic and always fashionable are these tassel earrings. With a tightly bound top knot of 1.5 mm seed pearls, the tassels swing breathlessly free with micro seed pearls of 1 mm or less. Ear wires of 14k gold are each appointed with a single lustrous 3 mm natural pearl. The pearls are iridescent with a glorious creamy white color and accented by hints of blue and green.
Measures 2-3/8 inches (6.6 cm) in length by more than 3/8 of an inch (1.1 cm) in width at the top knot. In excellent condition. Later date restring for security. Dates to circa 1910 and the Age of Elegance.
