Luxurious Long Victorian Gold Chain and Slide
Extravagant in its length and almost over the top in weight for its type, this antique 18k yellow gold slide and chain makes the heart flutter. The original Victorian slide is classically decorated with a black enamel Greek key pattern flanked by alternating tiny garnet cabochon stones and half seed pearls.
The sides are engraved with entwined trailing designs. Striking combination of colors is both glorious and rich. The type of chain is a squared snake concluding at the end with a swivel clasp to attach a pendant or several charms or fobs. The chain can be wrapped four times or worn in a number of ways with the slide and the swivel loop.
Condition: Excellent with one small twist at the top of the chain by the swivel; small amount of enamel loss when viewed with magnification. Chain has a few subtle dimples.
Measurements: Slide is more than ¾ of an inch (2 cm) by just shy of 5/8 of an inch (1.5 cm). Chain is 72-3/8 inches (183.8 cm) in total length including a 1-1/8 inch (2.8 cm) clasp. Together the weight is a substantial 52.8 grams.
Date: Circa 1860 - 1870
