Day Night Georgian Chalcedony Earrings
Here we have a pair of traditional English earrings of this era that consist of an elongated tear drop pendant in chalcedony which is set in a metal floral motif. Typically Georgian fashionable with its pear shaped drop suspended from a single stone circular surmount, there is the added benefit of the pair being day night earrings. The surmount of chalcedony is set within a gilt metal collet embellished with swirl, scroll and stylized foliate forms and still retains the original back to front ear wires. The pendant is similarly mounted in gilt metal with a more ornate floral motif and unadorned cap or jacket at the top.
Measures 2-3/4 inches (7 cm) in length including a ¼ of an inch (0.7 cm) ear wire by 7/8 of an inch (2.2 cm) at the widest. The pair has a weight of 10 grams. In good condition; on the reverse a wear to the gilding at earring top and near bottom. Dates to circa 1840 and is English in origin.
