Transformation - Georgian Topaz Ring
Jewelry adapts to fashion. It is an inextricable link. With the passage of time a great deal of jewelry has been re-fashioned to suit the vagaries of what at that time is considered to be “au courant”.
Here is a piece that some may view as the modification surpassing the original. A Georgian lace pin or small brooch has been transformed into an aristocratic ring with a marriage of a circa 1820 14k gold shank as well. Centered with a faceted rectangular faceted topaz, concentric ovals studded with pearls and garnets join reeded gold bands. The shoulders and band are embellished with a heavily chased floral pattern that aptly adds to richness of the design.
The top is in excellent condition and that of the shank is very good with some wear to the pattern. The top is affixed securely with a blended gold base. Measures just over 7/8 of an inch (2.2 cm) by just over 3/4 of an inch (1.9 cm). Currently a size US 6-1/2 (British M; Euro 17.00, 53 mm). Can be sized by our expert jewelers. Weighs 8.7 grams. Circa 1820. English in origin.
