Art Deco Ruby Diamond Ring
The ruby, often referred to as “the king of all gems” is the scarcest and most prized of the gemstones. Because of their rarity, they were one of the first to be produced synthetically. This process was so highly regarded that synthetic rubies were exhibited at the 1900 World’s Fair held in Paris.
The sleek design of this early 20th century ring incorporates style characteristics of the Art Deco era. Open backed and mounted into 18k gold, an old mine cut diamond of approximately 0.5 carats is embraced by two (2) synthetic rubies of 3 mm each. Creating visual interest and dimensionality, the gems are set diagonally against concave grooves of gold that meld into the shoulders of the band.
Measures ¼ of an inch or 0.7 cm in width and has a weight of 2.4 grams. Currently a US size 5-3/4 (British L; Euro 16.50, 52 mm) and can be sized. Hallmarked “Chester”, “18”, and date letter “T” for 1919; also maker’s mark of “TSO”. In very good condition; slight rubbing to surface of rubies with medium to light wear to the gold. English in origin and from Art Deco period.
Note: All gem weights and sizes are approximate since the stones were not removed from their mounts to preserve the integrity of the setting.
